The United Nations University has analysed that manufacturing an average 24Kg desktop PC with monitor is ten times more material-intensive than an automobile or refrigerator.Manufacturing a desktop PC with a 43.2 cm(17 inch)CRT monitor requries 240Kg of Chemicals and 1500Kg of water.




While Pc's become smaller and more power ful,their environmental impacts are increasing.PC parts arer made from toxic chemicals such as lead,cadmium,mercury and chromium.The materials and energy-intensive production process,along with the rapid rate of discard of PCs for migration to newer models,is resulting into mountains of garbage , resourse depletion , environmental pollution and climate change.
